Located in south central Kansas on the Arkansas River, Wichita is the most populous city in Kansas with a population of over 360,000 residents. Wichita was incorporated in 1870 and the earliest settlers were businessmen who came to hunt and trade with native populations. Wichita was established as the "Air Capital of the World" in the 20th century with aircraft pioneers like Clyde Cessna, Walter Beech and Bill Lear who started their projects here in the city that later helped establish major aircraft corporations like the Stearman Aircraft, Cessna, Mooney and Beechcraft in the late 1920s. Today along with other corporations such as Learjet and Spirit AeroSystems; Airbus and Boeing maintain a workforce in Wichita.
Wichita’s rich and diverse culture is attributed to the composition of population consisting of African-American, Hispanic, Asian citizens and other ethnic groups. There is no shortage of things to do and enjoy in Wichita. Museums, galleries, theme parks, stores, restaurants, historical sites and a host of other recreational activities make Wichita the most ideal place to visit. The Old Town that has some of the best nightclubs, laid back bars, distinctive restaurants, live concerts, quaint specialty shops and a Saturday farmer's market.
